Hi, my name is Melissa Ginn. I am the owner of Best Left at Home Pet Sitting Services.

Coming from a family of 5 children, I was the one who would always find stray animals and bring them home. I specifically remember a time when I found a very pregnant hound mix and proceeded to take her home. My dad, shook his head and said, "I think we need to put a shelter together and build a pen."  Along with the mom came 12 very healthy pups, all of whom were found wonderful homes. I believe I got my heart for all critters from both my mom and dad. We always had pets and always took them in and considered it a “lifetime commitment”.

Through the years, I have had the complete honor of having many beloved pets in my life. In June of 2006, my husband and I had to let our beloved Sabina go. She was a chocolate lab/springer mix who had a terrific life and we were so fortunate to have her for over 17 years.  Gypsy, my sweet soul, a white boxer who was born deaf. She graced our home at 10 weeks of age. Her little eyes and nose were so pink that she often got so sun burned her eyes would swell shut and her nose would blister. We opted to have her eyelids and nose tattooed to decrease her sensitivity to the sun. We were then able to focus on her being deaf.  Never stopped little Gypsy, she adjusted perfectly and understood our feeble attempts at sign language. I lost my little girl this past July at the wonderful age of 11.   Thankfully I was able to be with her when it was time.

Currently I have two horses, 17 chickens, two dogs, three cats, and two adorable pygmy goats.

My journey over the years has included many corporate management positions and a lot pet sitting on the side. This past June my employer downsized the company and I found myself out of a job. I took the summer and thought long and hard on where I could work and still have an amazing effect on people and I very much wanted to include pets in this equation.

I have always been a stickler on who can watch my pets when I need to be away and I’ve always believed that pets are best left at home when their owners are away. Hence my name, Best Left at Home. My care is based on how I want my critters treated.
